The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has officially released its nomination and expression of interest fees for all members eyeing positions in the 2026 general elections.Aspirants for the presidency will need to pay Shs 20 million to run on the NRM ticket, while those seeking parliamentary seats must pay Shs 3 million. These fees are part of a detailed breakdown issued by the NRM Electoral Commission and remain largely unchanged from the 2020 elections.
Here’s a quick look at the 2025 NRM nomination fees:
Position | Nomination Fees |
President | 20,000,000 |
Member of Parliament | 3,000,000 |
Lord Mayor | 1,500,000 |
Lord Councillor | 1,000,000 |

All payments must be made through designated NRM bank accounts as guided by the party. While veteran politicians may take the fees in stride, some youth and first-time aspirants say the charges could discourage new entrants into politics. At a press briefing held at the NRM Secretariat in Kampala, Secretary-General Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong unveiled the NRM 2025–2026 political roadmap. He announced that the process begins on April 24, 2025, with nominations for village and LC1 level positions.“This is a key milestone in our political journey.
We urge members to follow the set timelines,” Todwong said. The NRM Electoral Commission advised all interested candidates to start the process early and follow the rules to avoid disqualification. As the countdown to 2026 begins, the cost of contesting within the NRM is once again proving to be a major test of both determination and financial readiness.
