KAMPALA – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission, led by Dr. Tanga Odoi, has officially nullified the results of the July 17th party primaries in Kapchorwa District following a series of petitions and allegations of electoral malpractice.
After a tense and lengthy closed-door meeting held earlier today with several aggrieved aspirants from Tingey County, Kapchorwa Municipality, and the District Woman MP race, the Commission resolved to cancel the election results, citing gross mismanagement and irregularities.
According to Dr. Odoi, the Commission received numerous complaints ranging from vote rigging to widespread bribery involving election officials. Central to the controversy is the District Registrar, Mr. Kamonges Akram, who is currently in police custody. He was allegedly found in possession of over eight million Ugandan shillings, suspected to be bribe money linked to the disputed election process.
“The Commission cannot, in good conscience, uphold results that are clearly compromised,” Dr. Odoi stated. “We are committed to ensuring free and fair elections that reflect the will of the people.”
The Commission has promised to announce a new date for fresh elections in the affected constituencies in the coming days. The decision has sparked mixed reactions among locals and party supporters, with many calling for a total overhaul of the district election team.
